Welcome to Mississippi Learning Institute It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Mississippi Learning Institute (MLI) and the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Educational Resource Center at Jackson State University. The MLI features a unique partnership between the Jackson Public School District, the Jackson State University, the Barksdale Reading Institute, and the Mississippi Department of Education. MLI strives to promote systemic change to raise student achievement at all levels; to this end, the partnership currently provides year-round, high-quality professional development to both in-service and pre-service teachers to powerfully impact classroom instruction. The MLI also works closely with the America Reads Mississippi program which provides full-time literacy tutors for public schools in the district. Through our scholarly activities, we strive to advance and disseminate knowledge and to provide exemplary teaching and leadership to our constituencies. We are dedicated to improving the education of children from ages 0 to 99. I invite you to call upon me and my staff if we can ever be of assistance to you.
